Nuthatches are rarely still for long. They travel headfirst down tree trunks, searching every crack in the bark before disappearing around the other side.
In this original pastel painting, I wanted to capture one of those brief pauses between movements. The bird is small against the trunk, but its blue-grey feathers and warm chest stand quietly against the softened woodland background.
Created slowly by hand in soft pastel, Nuthatch’s Pause is a one-of-a-kind original artwork with delicate feather detail and a gentle, atmospheric finish.
