Why This Piece?
Royal spoonbills have a wonderful way of slowing me down. While they feed, they're completely absorbed in the rhythm of the tide, sweeping their bills gently from side to side as the light dances across the water.
I wanted to capture that fleeting moment when the evening sun turns the estuary to gold. The hand-applied gold leaf wasn't added as decoration, but to recreate the way the water catches the light, so the painting changes subtly throughout the day, just as the real landscape does.

Every piece of genuine gold leaf has been applied by hand, allowing the water to shimmer differently as the light changes throughout the day.
Combined with the velvety softness of pastel on archival Pastelmat, the contrasting textures create a painting that reveals new details each time you pass by.

This limited edition print is created from my original pastel artwork.
Each edition is produced in small numbers to preserve the integrity and collectable nature of the work. Every print is individually signed and numbered by hand.
