Nuthatches never seemed to stay still for long.
I used to watch them at my local park, catching flashes of blue and warm rusty orange as they darted around the trees and disappeared behind the bird feeders. I’d stand there with my camera, waiting for one to pause long enough for a photograph, but they usually had other ideas.
That’s what I love about this painting. It holds onto one of those fleeting moments when a busy little bird finally stops.
Nuthatch’s Pause is a quiet celebration of the small encounters with wildlife that are so easy to miss if we’re not paying attention. A moment of stillness, borrowed from a bird that rarely gives you one.
