River's Jewel is my soft pastel painting of the British kingfisher. Growing up in Northern Ireland, I'd sometimes catch a glimpse of one skimming low over the river. Just a flash of electric blue before it vanished around the next bend. If you blinked, you missed it.
Years later, I wanted to capture that feeling. Not just what the bird looks like, but the quiet surprise of seeing something wild when you least expect it.

Why This Piece?
There's something about a kingfisher that never leaves you.
Growing up in Northern Ireland, I'd sometimes catch a glimpse of one along the river. Just a flash of electric blue skimming low over the water before it disappeared around the next bend. If you blinked, you missed it.
Kingfishers feel special because they're so fleeting. You don't usually go looking for one. They simply appear for a moment, bright as treasure, then they're gone.
That's what I wanted River's Jewel to capture. The sudden colour, the stillness afterwards, and the reminder to slow down and notice the quiet moments that often become the ones we remember most.
Painted from memories of watching kingfishers in Britain and Northern Ireland, River's Jewel is now printed from my studio in New Zealand and sent to collectors around the world.
What Makes It Special?
This kingfisher is inspired by those fleeting moments that stay with you long after they're gone. The sudden flash of blue over the water. The pause on a riverside walk. The feeling of being lucky enough to witness something wild.
Every painting begins with time spent outdoors, watching, photographing and simply noticing the wildlife around me. Working in soft pastel allows me to capture the rich colours and delicate feather detail while keeping the atmosphere quiet and natural.

A4 is lovely for a small shelf, bedside table, gallery wall or a quiet corner that needs a little lift.
A3 is my most popular size. It has enough presence to feel special without taking over the room, and works beautifully above a console table, desk, reading chair or as part of a larger gallery wall.
A2 is the statement piece. Choose this size if you want the kingfisher to really hold the space, especially above a sofa, sideboard, bed or fireplace.

This limited edition print is created from my original pastel artwork.
Each edition is produced in small numbers to preserve the integrity and collectable nature of the work. Every print is individually signed and numbered by hand.

All prints are sold unframed unless a framing option is selected.
Where framing is available, frames are made from solid wood and glazed with glass to protecting the artwork.
A white mount is included to give the artwork space to breathe within the frame unless the print comes with a pre printed border
